Multilingual children are not simply three monolingual children in one
A child who regularly encounters several languages may distribute words and skills across those languages. Vocabulary in one language alone therefore does not always represent the child's total language knowledge. Children can also mix words or structures from different languages. This is a normal feature of multilingual communication and is not, by itself, evidence of confusion.
What matters is meaningful exposure
Children learn language through interaction.
